SBS has named Hyundai, McDonald’s, TAB.com.au, IAG and TAC (Victoria) as its broadcast partners for the 2013-14 season of the Hyundai A-League.

The announcement:

SBS has named Hyundai, McDonald’s, TAB.com.au, IAG and TAC (Victoria) as its broadcast partners for the 2013-14 season of the Hyundai A-League which kicks off on 11 October on SBS 2.

The five partners will receive exposure across all of SBS’s Hyundai A-League properties including the live Friday night matches, weekly highlights program and entertainment show Thursday FC. Filmed in front of a live studio audience, Thursday FC will showcase the Hyundai A-League like never before, combining the latest football news and views with entertainment, interviews and live performances.

SBS’s broadcast of the Hyundai A-League marks the first time it has been broadcast on free-to-air TV since the competition’s inception. The Hyundai A-League will form a cornerstone of the SBS 2 programming schedule, which relaunched in April this year as a bold, provocative channel for younger audiences aged 16-30.

SBS Radio will also provide live commentary for the Friday night Hyundai A-League matches via SBS Radio 3, with commentators throughout the season including Vitor Sobral, Aytek Genc, Glenn Osborne and Clint Bolton. SBS also offers live online streaming of the Friday night match at www.sbs.com.au/theworldgame as well as highlights of all matches.

Andrew Cook, Director of Sales, SBS Media said: “With the arrival of the Hyundai A-League live every Friday night, SBS has strengthened its position as the home of football for all Australians. We have received strong support from the market for live sport on Friday nights and it is fantastic to have five major partners who will be part of launching the Hyundai A-League on free-to-air TV for the first time. The Hyundai A-League audience is about to get a whole lot broader, and with SBS as the exclusive broadcaster of the FIFA World Cup next year in Brazil, it is a very exciting time to be involved with football and SBS.”

SBS’s Hyundai A-League coverage will be supported by one of the network’s largest marketing campaigns of this year. The campaign launched on September 30 and features A-League players celebrating free A-League on SBS 2, driving awareness of the Friday night matches as well as the teams. The outdoor creative will run in an Adshel campaign across Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Newcastle and the Central Coast. SBS has also partnered with football magazine FourFourTwo ahead of the launch of the competition this week.

Thursday FC launches tonight at 8:30pm on SBS 2.

SBS’s LIVE coverage of the Hyundai A-League begins tomorrow night when Sydney FC host the Newcastle Jets from 7:00pm AEDT on SBS 2.
