SBS’s Studio turns to the dark side
SBS’s subscription TV arts channel Studio is widen its footprint with programming including a cabaret show hosted by You Am I frontman Tim Rogers, edgy adult content and a documentary series about a porn proprietor.
The channel will relaunch in three weeks time with the marketing position of WTF – which stands for phrases including Watch The Famous, Watch The Forbidden and Watch The Funny.
The Tim Rogers show Studio at the Memo will feature cabaret, music and burlesque filmed at Melbourne performance venue the Memo.
Among the documentaries to feature in the Studio After Dark lineup is French series Hard which follows a “porn empress”. It will also offer profiles of the likes of musician Goldie and Steve Jobs.
Speaking at last night’s launch, SBS Subscription TV GM Chris Keely said: “It’s not out with the old, but it is in with the new. We’ve considered what it means to be Australia’s arts channel and next month we reveal a rebrand that is more dynamic, diverse and accessible than ever before. We continue to feature exhilarating performances from the world’s greatest artists, while becoming the home of fascinating stories that surprise, and unexpected ideas that open up your world.”
Studio couldn’t widen its footprint enough as far as I’m concerned … and in doing so obscuring Australia’s rather interesting tv landscape (TV Week’s Night of Nights, say no more…). I can’t wait.
