2013 – Screen ads of the year

1. TAP KING ‘HELLO’

To introduce Lion’s home-use beer keg, the brand turned to music legend Lionel Richie. In the ad, created by BMF, Richie is stationed at the back of a fridge singing his classic hit Hello. The spot was voted Australia’s favourite ad during the month of July from a survey conducted by Pure Profile and The Acid Test of 1,000 members of the Australian public.

2. MASTERCARD PAYPASS

Produced by Jungleboys for McCann Melbourne, this spot for Mastercard features a little pirate who puts his mother in a difficult position when they encounter an eye patched elderly gent in the supermarket. This ad was chosen as Australia’s favourite ad during the month of April.

 3. SCHWEPPES ‘TUMBLE’

Taking out a film silver at this years Cannes Lions, this ad for Schweppes features two people tumbling down mountains and hill slopes to demonstrate the idea of ‘schweppervescence’.

4. MEAT & LIVESTOCK AUSTRALIA ‘LAMBNESIA’

Meat & Livestock Australia delivered a cracker Australia Day campaign with front man Sam Kekovich suffering a head injury causing him to hallucinate about rugby players in tutus, getting his fingernails painted and dancing Gangnam Style.

5. PERFECT ITALIANO 

An ad for Perfect Italiano cheese by Clemenger BBDO Melbourne featuring Gordon Ramsay being excused from kitchen duties struck a chord with Australians who enjoyed seeing Ramsay getting a comeuppance.

6. MEAT & LIVESTOCK AUSTRALIA ‘EASY LAMB ROAST’

Motherly bikers who help strangers blow their noses and cook perfect lamb roasts won the hearts of Aussies in May with this spot for Meat and Livestock Australia by BMF, directed by Jungleboys’ Scott Pickett.

7. SNICKERS ‘YOU’RE NOT YOU WHEN YOU’RE HUNGRY’

Home and Away star Ray Meagher was the ideal choice for the first Australian version of the long-running Snickers ‘You’re not you when you’re hungry campaign’. The actor who plays legendary character Alf Stewart featured in the Clemenger Melbourne BBDO ad as the angry alter ego of a hungry dirt bike rider.
