Second last BBL match brings 490,000 metro viewers to Seven

The first session of the Big Bash League’s The Challenger, the match-up between the Perth Scorchers and Brisbane Heat to determine who would take on the Sydney Sixers in Saturday’s final, brought 490,000 metro viewers to channel Seven last night.

Session two drew 461,000, the innings break 419,000, and the pre-game coverage 304,000 across the five capital cities. With the regions included, session one had a total of 814,000 viewers, and 712,000 tuned into the second session to watch the Scorchers clinch their victory against the Heat.

Seven News topped the rankings and the key advertising demographics, attracting 917,000 metro viewers at 6pm and 870,000 at 6:30pm. Nine News (853,000), Nine News at 6:30 (813,000), ABC News (654,000), and A Current Affair (592,000) all performed strongly, while the ABC’s Back Roads (511,000) and 7:30 (509,000) were next in line.

Seven easily won the night given Nine’s Getaway and Ten’s Ambulance Australia both sat in the 300,000s (334,000 and 331,000, respectively) with a commanding 21% channel share and 31.7% network share.

Nine had a 15.3% channel share and 21.9% for the network, and Ten 10.2% and 17.6%. The ABC topped Ten on both a channel and network basis, with shares of 12.1% and 17.7%, respectively.

7Mate sat on top of the multi-channel pile with a 5.1% share thanks to a showing of 2010 action movie Red during prime-time.
