The Secret Life of Pets too strong for Sully and Bridget Jones’s Baby at box office

The Secret Life of Pets maintained its top spot at the box office, denying the premieres of biographical drama Sully and rom-com Bridget Jones’s Baby the top position.

The Secret Life of Pets debuted at $1.9m last week, and this weekend more than doubled its sales, taking in $4.8m.

Sully, a film starring Tom Hanks as Capt. Chesley ‘Sully’ Sullenberger who made the miraculous emergency landing of a plane on New York’s Hudson River, was second on its first weekend, making $2.6m on 363 screens.

It pushed Bridget Jones’s Baby in third, after taking $1.2m on 268 screens.

Horror film Don’t Breathe dropped from number two a last week ago to fourth with $954,429 in earnings last weekend, while Bad Moms dropped from third last week (with $1.7m) to fifth (with $816,556).
