SEEK and ye shall find – UM Australia given media account after 8 years with Starcom

Employment marketplace, Seek has chosen UM Australia as its new media agency of tender, following a competitive pitch, ending its relationship with Starcom.

The appointment will now see UM handle media for Seek across both the Australian and New Zealand markets, ending its eight-year relationship with the Publicis agency.

Marketing director at Seek, Maryanne Tsiatsias said: “We would like to thank Starcom for their years of partnership and dedication to the SEEK business. As we head into a new chapter for our organisation, we are thrilled to partner with UM and bring them into the fold of our team and other agency partners, TBWA and Adhesive.”

Tsiatsias said the brand was impressed by UM’s passion for the business through the pitch process, which was handled by Ebiquity Australia. “We’re excited by their collaborative spirit and creative thinking, which will support us in further embedding our brand in the hearts and minds of job seekers and employers. The marketing team and I are looking forward to seeing the unique and bold media ideas they will bring.”

UM CEO, Anathea Ruys added: “The team was very energised by both the category and what Seek stood for, right from the beginning of the process. Then as we got to know the individuals that made up the marketing team we became even more excited about what a partnership between us could look like. We are looking forward to delivering powerful dividends to the Seek business.”

The move comes after Tsiatsias became head marketer at Seek last year, joining from World Vision where she was chief marketing officer.

Shortly after, the brand released a series of campaign videos featuring actor John Heder, reprising his role as Napoleon Dynamite, created by Adhesive and Seek’s Shared & Earned team.

The win follows a productive year for UM, which has seen it recently retain its business with energy provider AGL, while also retaining ING, and adding Dyson to its roster. It is currently awaiting the result of a pitch for its client nbn.
