Sequels rule the box office across the long weekend

Sequels proved the popular choice at the cinema over the long weekend, with The Conjuring 2, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of the Shadows and Now You See Me 2 claiming the top three spots.

Horror movie The Conjuring 2 grabbed the top spot after pulling in $3.527m on its opening weekend, taking in a total of $4.339m since its premiere on Thursday.

Megan Fox vehicle, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, managed second place, raking in $2.463m, while Now You See Me 2 fell to third spot, after taking out the number one position last week, and making $2.050m.

Taika Waititi’s Hunt for the Wilderpeople grabbed $1.507m to take the New Zealand film’s total Australian box office to $4.542m.

Johnny Depp’s Alice Through The Looking Glass achieved $1.129m – taking its local box office to $7.392m.
