Seven and Nine neck and neck one third into ratings year
With the first third of the year over, the 2010 ratings race between Nine and Seven is shaping up to be incredibly tight.
Seven currently has the narrowest of leads.
Last week saw Nine narrow the gap with a primetime victory with 25.3% to Seven’s 24.8% according to preliminary metro OzTam ratings of free to air viewing. Buoyed by masterchef, Ten pulled in 21.5%.
And in the 16-39 demographic, Ten won the week, with a 27.8% share to Nine’s 27.4% and Seven’s 22.3%.
The Nine Network (which also includes digital station Go) is virtually neck and neck with the Seven network (which also includes 7Two) for the year to date.
In the commercial three-way battle between Seven, Nine and Ten, excluding Easter and the non-ratings period at the start of the year, Seven has 37% to Nine’s 36.9% and Ten (also including digital sports channel One) has 26.1%.
The battle is also tight in individual station share. Over the weekend, Free TV issued a set of figures for primetime metro viewing including pay TV channels.
By this calculation, Seven has a small lead of 21.2% to Nine’s 20.6%.
However, both channels have big cards yet to play. Seven has been holding back its homegrown ratings juggernaut Packed To The Rafters, while Nine will shortly start filming The Block and also had the police doco series AFP which promises to be a ratings drawcard.
