Gogglebox starts strongly on Foxtel while My Kitchen Rules and Winter help Seven win night

The premiere of Gogglebox Australia on the Lifestyle Channel was watched by 146,000 viewers ahead of the series debut on free-to-air TV tonight.

Channel Ten will air the co-commissioned series, a local adaptation of the UK hit which follows people’s reactions as they watch TV, from 9pm. It was second on pay-TV only to Selling Houses Australia, also on the LifeStyle channel, which was watched by 152,000.

On free-to-air TV Seven’s drama series Winter saw its audience fall on its second outing, grabbing an audience of 918,000 at 9pm down from last week’s audience of 1.125m. Last week’s episode of Winter was watched by an extra 185,000, taking its total audience to 1.309m viewers.

My Kitchen Rules gave the show a lead-in audience of 1.632m in the 7.30pm timeslot. It won the night and was the most watched show across all the demographics, according to OzTam preliminary metro ratings.

It easily out-rated Nine’s The Block: Triple Threat which pulled an audience of 720,000 metro viewers, up on last week’s audience of 683,000. The Block was the second most watched show across all the demographics.

Both shows beat Ten’s I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here which was watched by 600,000 metro viewers, up on last week’s preliminary metro audience of 588,000.

Seven easily won the night with an audience share of 26.8 per cent, while Nine lagged behind with a share of 18.3 per cent. The ABC beat Ten managing a share of 12.4 per cent while Ten settled for a share of 11.4 per cent.

Nine’s premiere of US drama series Forever, which is about Dr Henry Morgan, an immortal medical examiner in New York City, pulled a metro audience of 619,000 at 9pm, outrated by Seven’s Winter. A second episode of Forever at 10pm was watched by 522,000.

Meanwhile on Ten, the second outing of the new season of locally-produced drama Wonderland grabbed an audience of 438,000, down from last week’s audience of 445,000. At 9.30pm The Good Wife was watched by 296,000.

On the ABC, 7.30 pulled an audience of 716,000 while QI at 8pm was watched by 622,000. The return of Shaun Micallef’s Mad as Hell at 8.30pm attracted a crowd of 768,000 and Judith Lucy is all Woman at 9pm was watched by 580,000.

In news, Seven News at 6pm won the night with an audience of 997,000, dropping away to 964,000 at 6.30pm. Nine News at 6pm was watched by 959,000, growing to 987,000 at 6.30pm.
