Seven wins the night as MKR contestant controversy boosts audience to 1.6 million

Seven delivered a strong audience share on Wednesday night with the help of a heated episode of My Kitchen Rules and the premiere of new show Back with the Ex.

MKR, which last night saw judge Manu Feildel kick NSW contestants Sonya and Hadil off the show, pulled in 1.623m metro viewers, making it the most watched program of the night in total audience as well as across all key advertising demographics; 16-39, 18-49s and 25-54s.

The biggest audience for MKR came from Sydney, at 391,000.

Shortly after the episode was the premiere of new dating show Back with the Ex, which premiered with 449,000 metro viewers at 9pm.

On Ten, Bachelor In Paradise pulled in a metro audience of 630,000, sitting behind MKR across all key advertising demographics. The Project 6:30pm captured a metro audience of 336,000.

Nine’s Wednesday night offering, Elton John: I’m Still Standing – A Grammy Salute, managed 542,000, slightly behind Bachelor in Paradise.

However the ABC was a strong competitor later in the evening, with Hard Quiz’s audience at 557,000 and Shaun Micallef’s Mad as Hell achieving 525,000. Nine has commenced promotional efforts for the return of Micallef’s Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Generation.

Looking at the news bulletins, Seven News grabbed the largest audience, with 988,000 metro viewers. However the race between Seven and Nine was tighter last night. Nine News achieved 923,000.

Yesterday the multi-channels were dominated by ABC Kids, with Thomas and Friends leading the top 20 at 185,000 metro viewers.

But looking to the main channel shares, Seven won the night with a 27.2% share. Nine’s share was almost 10 percentage points lower, at 18.8%. Ten’s share beat the ABC last night – averaging 11.6% over 10.2%. SBS’ share was 4.9%.
