Olympics numbers slip slightly for Seven but still dominate viewing

The Seven Network enjoyed another healthy night as its Day 2 wrap of the Olympic Games, In Rio Today, drew 1.266m viewers.

Rio 2016 olympicsThe number was down slightly on the previous day’s audience of 1.332m, but with strong performances on the shooting range and in the pool, the wrap was the second most watched show of the evening, behind Seven’s news at 6:00pm, with 1.374m.

More than 2.027m evening viewers tuned into the start of day three at 9:00pm, while the late night broadcast from 10:30pm attracted 440,000.

Despite being broadcast from the beaches of Rio with a total audience of 378,000, Sunrise was unable to achieve a clean sweep with Today winning in Sydney and Perth, although the shows were not head-to-head in Perth with Sunrise broadcasting from 3.30am.

The top 10 shows included Nine News at 6:00pm (1.103m), Seven News at 6:30pm (1.033m), Nine News at 6:30pm (1.023m) and A Current Affair at 7:00pm (833,000).

Seven’s The Chase Australia at 5:00pm pulled in 830,000 as the strongest performing general entertainment show.

Have You Been Paying Attention? on Ten was the network’s highest rating show at 8:30pm with 690,000 while Nine’s best general entertainment show was The Hot Seat at 5:20pm, which achieved 610,000.
