The X Factor wins Tuesday night entertainment battle, but Masterchef wins the demo battle

Seven’s The X Factor narrowly won last night’s entertainment battle pulling a metro audience of 1.16m compared with the finals week of Ten’s Masterchef which recorded an audience of 1.12m.

However, it was Masterchef that clinched the important demographic battle claiming number one spot across people in the categories of 16-39, 18-39 and 25-54s.

In the same 7.30pm slot Nine’s Hamish and Andy’s Gap Year drew an audience of 1.047m, the highest result for this season.

Talent shows such as The X Factor and The Voice have both been down in audience this year, with last night’s show on Seven down on last week where it had an audience of 1.24m. However, Seven still won the night with an audience share of 22.3 per cent.

In the news battle Nine News won the night with an audience of 1.2m at 6pm and 1.189m for its second half hour, compared with 1.14m for Seven News at 6pm and 1.009m for its news and Today/Tonight combination at 6.30pm.

Despite Ten’s Masterchef demographic win, its new game show Family Feud was well down on its peak of last week (where it pulled 719,000) reaching 601,000 on its simulcast on Ten, Eleven and One. The network had said it was not going to simulcast the new show on One this week, having roadblocked it across its networks in the opening week.

Meanwhile Ten’s Under The Dome continued to lose audience at 8.30pm down from 522,000 last week to 466,000 last night.

In the 9.30pm slot Arrow on Nine recovered somewhat from its poor series two debut lifting its audience from 342,000 viewers to 416,000 last night.

In terms of audience share on the main channels while Seven won the night as Nine had an 19.4 per cent share and Ten had a 14.7 per cent audience share.
