SFF to be closed by mystery Australian film

SFF closing night filmTickets for the opening and closing nights of the Sydney Film Festival have gone on sale,  one week before the films are even announced.

The closing night film will be “an Australian premiere” on June 14, but the title will not be revealed until May 7. It has been speculated that the chosen title could be The Tree or The Waiting City.

Opening night on June 2 is being promoted as ‘Sydney’s hottest winter film event’, with tickets for the film selling for $20 ($17 concession) and $80 for a film/party package.

“The opening is such a highly anticipated highlight of the festival that it always sells out, so it’s about helping people ensure they can go to the event,” said a SFF spokesperson.

Tickets are currently available here.

Update: It has been revealed that the SFF will open with an Australian film, Shirley Barrett’s South Solitary, and close with Lisa Cholodenko’s The Kids are Alright. Both The Tree and The Waiting City will screen at the festival, as well as Cane Toads: The Conquest, Red Hill, The Loved Ones, Wasted on the Young and Hesher (written by David Michod).
