Shadowboxer investment Doshii sold to X15 ventures
Creative consultancy Shadowboxer has capitalised on the sale of tech startup Doshii to Commonwealth Bank Australia’s X15 ventures arm for an undisclosed amount.
Shadowboxer has spent the past seven months helping fintech client Doshii define its brand, product and marketing strategy to scale their customer base.
The acquisition shows the profitability of Shadowboxer’s creative capital model (equity for services) with Shadowboxer paid out as a Doshii shareholder as part of the transaction. The deal that was struck between Doshii and Shadowboxer saw the new consultancy deliver brand, pricing, product strategy, and design services to the hospitality fintech for a mix of fees and equity.
Doshii is an app marketplace and platform for hospitality venues to better manage and control all the apps critical to running their business. For example, with Doshii, venues can centralise menu management via the Doshii dashboard and soon to be released Doshii Connect App, as opposed to individually updating menu items on various ordering and delivery apps – saving time and money.
“We’ve wired Shadowboxer to accelerate businesses and brands on a mission. We knew there was always a risk taking equity for services but we ultimately believed in the vision of the founder Sean O’Meara, the Doshii team and our ability to make a difference on the business as it shaped up for acquisition talks,” said Shadowboxer managing partner Konrad Spilva.
“It’s important for us to prove the model too and make sure our positioning as a company that actually invests in our clients’ businesses isn’t just talk. We never want to be an agency and consultancy that can only grow through more clients, more people and more timesheets because the value of the business then comes down to scale alone. Being able to build value into our business through traditional fees for service and equity in fast growing companies means we can stay true to our proposition of a SWAT team of specialists.”
Aside from Doshii, Shadowboxer are also working closely with two other founding teams in a joint
venture and equity for services capacity.
