Shift launches ‘beat the congestion’ campaign for Sydney’s Cross City Tunnel
Shift has launched a campaign to persuade young Sydney drivers of the benefits of using the Cross City Tunnel, which connects Sydney’s Darling Harbour to Rushcutter’s Bay in the Eastern Suburbs.
The first phase of the campaign will run in local papers such as Bondi View, Inner West Independent and City Hub.
An iPhone app will run in support that gives drivers real-time data from traffic cameras. Cross City Tunnel branding will run on the SydTraffic app. An online component is to follow.
The effectiveness of the campaign will be measured by usage of the tunnel, noted Shift’s ECD Raj Rabindranath.
Rabindranath took over Shift’s creative department following the exit of Monty Noble at the beginning of the month.

I think the only way to get young people the use the CCT would be to block off both ends and turn it into a nightclub.

Haha!
Ad number one says the Eastern Suburbs are the arsehole of Sydney!
Too funny.
(Or the Inner West if you’re driving the other way… I guess…)

Talk about an impossible brief, the only thing harder than getting people to use the CCT would be to get them to watch The Renovators

if they spent that marketing dollar on lowering the cost… then I would use it!

I fall into this target market and I refuse to use the tunnel because of the cost. And this campaign certainly won’t inspire me to start. Lower the price and I might consider it!

We charge people to use roads we want them to use.
We let people use roads for free we don’t want them to use.
Genius.

They should have used the bankruptcy of the tunnel to wipe most of the debt and allow them to charge a much lower toll.
It’s too expensive and not really convenient…

I disagree its not convenient, its a bloody good tunnel and saves a large amount of time depending on the time of day.
Problem is the cost, they raise it every quarter and its charged both ways. I note the electronic signs are up now about the next price rise, an amusing time to launch a new campaign to use it.
Also the City north exit from Rushcutters bay end gets backed up by the Harbour Tunnel/bridge traffic and you can’t get over till the very last minute so you get stuck in irrelevant traffic, if they had squeezed a second lane in somehow would make it a far better proposition.
Also they have a habit of not warning of major traffic problems until you are in the tunnel even though there is an external messaging board, that leaves a bad taste in the mouth.
For me I still use it as my time is worth more than the cost but surely they have to realise the cost is a major barrier to usage.
