Shine Australia’s head of communications Charlotte McLauchlan is to join New Zealand media company Mediaworks as group head of communications.

McLauchlan joins the media group following four years with Shine and has also previously worked at Channel 4 in London.

At Mediaworks she will oversee communications for the group, which includes TV3, Four and The Edge TV, radio brands The Edge, The Rock, More FM, The Breeze, The Sound, Mai FM, George FM, Magic, and RadioLIVE; a network of websites including 3news.co.nz and 3NOW, and a family of mobile and tablet apps.

McLauchlan’s departure from Shine follows that of sales director Lisa Higginson, who joined Roadshow Television, and ahead of the merger of the operations of Endemol and Shine which are being led by joint CEOs Mark and Carl Fennessey.

MediaWorks Group CEO Mark Weldon said in a statement: “Relationships with clients, viewers and listeners are at the heart of our business, and the Group Head of Communications plays an important role in maintaining those relationships. Charlotte has a wealth of experience in the media and the entertainment industry, which will be a huge advantage given the increasing number of assets and opportunities we continue to launch and manage.”

McLauchlan said in a statement: “After four amazing years with Shine Australia, it is a privilege to be returning home to New Zealand to join the MediaWorks team in what is a pivotal time for the business. With brands that touch almost all New Zealanders, the role presents a fascinating and demanding challenge – I can’t wait to get started.”

She takes up her new role with MediaWorks on August 26.
