US showcase, a one-year deal

Charlie & BootsEncore has further details about the upcoming USA-Australian Film Showcase, for which Screen Australia has contributed a $60,000 fee to provide access for the films in the US market.

The contract with US distributor Emerging Pictures is for the release of 12 Australian films over one year; the first event has confirmed a screening in New York City next month.

A Screen Australia spokesperson told Encore that Emerging Pictures will be responsible for the promotion of the events, which will start in June with The Waiting City, Accidents Happen and Charlie and Boots.

“Their campaign will include digital outreach (websites, e-mail blasts, community leaf letting) and traditional arthouse “grass roots marketing” to venues including bookstores, wine shops and libraries,” said the spokesperson. “Showcase trailers will be promoted in all venues well in advance, and a special Showcase visual is currently being created for all venues. A PR person will be responsible for US-wide press and will also monitor the individual market activities.”

Emerging Pictures will have to report regularly to Screen Australia on all activities.

Screenings have been secured for New York City, Fort Lauderdale, San Jose, Willington, and two venues in Palm Beach County, Florida. More venues are confirming daily.
