Simon Baggs leaves Newcastle’s Hit106.9

Radio announcer Simon Baggs has announced his departure from Newcastle’s Hit106.9 Breakfast.

The announcement:

Simon Baggs to depart Newcastle’s Hit106.9 Breakfast team

After three years of waking up Newcastle, Hit106.9 Breakfast Announcer Simon Baggs will be departing the show Nick, Jess & Simon at the end of 2019.

Simon arrived in Newcastle as a fill-in jock nearly three years ago and in that time, he became a permanent member of the Nick, Jess & Simon line up at the start of 2018.

Hit Breakfast Announcer, Simon Baggs, said: “I’ve had the greatest time with a great bunch of people in Newcastle. I’m really proud of what we all achieved over that past two and half years, and I wish all the best to the team in the future.”

During his time in Newcastle, Simon has starred in Beauty & The Beast alongside Nick and Jess, performed a drag show in front of Hit listeners, took a stand against domestic violence towards women with Nick, Jess & Simon’s Lip Sync Battle and most recently ran up King Street in a Mankini.

Southern Cross Austereo Group Content Director for NSW & ACT, Jase Allen, said: “Simon is an incredible broadcaster with a wealth of radio knowledge that will be missed by Hit Newcastle and our loyal listeners. We are sad to see him go but we respect his decision to move on.

“In the two and a half years he has walked his way around Newcastle and raised over $100,000 for the community, helped singles find love in Bali and his commitment to better himself and the product of the show has seen the ideas taken to a new level. Simon will definitely be missed on and off the air in Newcastle.”

Nick, Jess & Simon’s last show will be on Friday 20 December. A search will begin for Simon’s replacement in the near future.
