Sky News Australia names Sharri Markson as new prime time host

Sky News Australia has named Sharri Markson as the new weekday prime time host with her show, Sharri. She will replace Chris Kenny from February as a part of the network’s renewed schedule in 2023.

Markson, who previously hosted the Sunday 7pm timeslot, will move to 5pm Monday to Thursday. While she was on maternity leave in the second half of 2022, journalist Erin Molan filled in the Sunday spot.

Kenny will debut at the 8pm weekday spot later this month in a new show, Chris Kenny Tonight, which will see him deep dive into current events.

Prior to his termination, broadcaster Chris Smith was tipped to host the 5pm weeknight slot from 2023.

Paul Murray Live will return to its old timeslot Sunday to Thursday at 9pm.

New talents joining in 2023 include former Queensland Senator and Sky News contributor Amanda Stoker with her show, Sunday with Stoker, while international broadcaster Piers Morgan returns to Sky News Australia with a weeknight spot, Piers Morgan Uncensored.

Paul Whittaker, chief executive officer, Sky News Australia said: “As we look to the year ahead, we will continue to bring Australians quality public interest journalism and a diverse range of news, opinion and investigative programming across subscription and free-to-air television, digital, social media, and audio platforms.

“As our audience expects, we will strive to tell all sides of the story and will not shy away from the broad spectrum of viewpoints on any number of issues which impact our nation.”
