Sling & Stone hires Atomic 212’s Brian Giesen to head social and content for AUNZ

Sling & Stone has appointed Brian Giesen in the newly created role of head of social and content for Australia and New Zealand.

Giesen developed his specialisation in social and content during his 16 years at Ogilvy Public Relations in Sydney and Washington DC. Notably, he was a founding member of Social@Ogilvy, spending six-and-a-half years as its director.

Giesen joins Sling & Stone with an extensive background in social and content

After stints at Coca-Cola, the Commonwealth Bank and Ebay in the social teams, Giesen joins Sling & Stone from Atomic 212 where he’s spent the last two years as director of social.

In his new role, Giesen will be working with CEO Vuki Vujasinovic. Global head of social and content Callan Green, has also stepped into a new role as executive vice president at the agency’s Los Angeles office.

Vujasinovic told Mumbrella the appointment comes after growing demand from clients for social and content work.

“2020 was huge for us, and as we started planning for an even bigger 2021, we knew we needed to bring on even more talent. So we’ve been busy hiring in all three offices — Sydney, Auckland, and Los Angeles. I’m so glad that Brian has agreed to help us achieve our mission to unearth, craft, and share the stories of the most ambitious brands shaping the future,” he said.

“The two decades of experience Brian brings to our social and content work is going to be a huge benefit for all our clients and our work. More clients than ever are turning to us to help them tell their stories regardless of the channel, and we are not resting on our laurels. Brian and his team are already delivering impactful, important work for the world’s best challengers, disrupters, and entrepreneurs. And we’re just getting started.”

Giesen said joining Sling & Stone presented an “exciting opportunity”.

“For more than a decade, social media has changed the way that consumers work, live and play. I’m thrilled to be working with brands that are doing the exact same thing, helping them to use social and content to tell their stories in innovative and impactful ways,” Giesen said.

In December, the agency revealed the 20 hires it had made across its Sydney, Auckland and Los Angeles offices throughout the course of the COVID-19 pandemic after experiencing 15% growth.

Vujasinovic added that Sling & Stone is still on a hiring spree.

“The best thing about running Sling & Stone is the smart, passionate people I get to work with every day. We have a policy of not hiring brilliant jerks – Brian brings incredible skill and passion to our team and clients, but is also a downright wonderful human being who I’m so excited to work alongside,” Vujasinovic said.
