Smith Family calls for PR and marketing industry mentors

Children’s educational charity The Smith Family has put out a call for PR and marketing industry volunteers for its career mentoring program.

The announcement;

URGENT Career Mentors needed at The Smith Family!

You can volunteer at Australia’s largest children’s education charity and help disadvantaged young people break the cycle of poverty through education.

The Smith Family delivered life-changing learning and mentoring programs to more than 120,000 young Australians in need last year, with the support of thousands of volunteers who generously donated their time.

We currently have two urgent volunteer placements to fill to mentor students in our Career Mentoring Program who are looking to connect with and learn from industry professionals in the PR and Marketing space. Further details below…

“Overall this experience has meant so much to me, and I feel privileged to have met a person like my student. Her commitment to her studies despite some obstacles and her caring nature is truly inspiring. What drives me to continue is that I firmly believe our tiny moments will result in positive impacts in the future – in her life, my life and the people around us,” said Sarah, current Smith Family mentor.

What is the Career Mentoring Program?
The Smith Family’s Career Mentoring Program connects tertiary-aged students from a financially disadvantaged background with trained volunteer mentors, who can help them make a smooth transition from their final year of study into the workforce.
Many young students who The Smith Family work with don’t have access to adults who have attended higher education; mentors can give first-hand insight, guidance and industry support that’s so vital for helping students understand career options, and for building the networks and confidence needed to find a job.

What is the time commitment?
Students are matched with a mentor who, wherever possible, works in a field related to the student’s chosen field of study. Pairs meet a minimum of twice a semester and maintain regular contact via email or phone contact during the year. Pairs might also be invited to attend career transition activities and events hosted by The Smith Family.
