Snapchat and Gelato Messina team up for Mates Day ice cream giveaway

Snapchat and Gelato Messina have teamed up for Mates Day (May 8), and ice cream lovers can redeem a free scoop to celebrate.

The limited-edition flavour Oh Snap! is available for free across all stores nationwide until stocks run out. The flavour is inspired by the classic vanilla slice, featuring custard gelato layered with passionfruit puree and crunchy caramelised puff pastry pieces.

Sydney’s Surry Hills store is also getting an extra glow up on the day, transforming into a Snap-yellow brand experience that aims to bring friends together to enjoy their sweet treat and capture Snapchat content.

Tony Keusgen, managing director of Snap Inc. Australia and New Zealand, said, “Snapchat has always been different to social media, giving our community fun and creative ways to stay connected with their real friends, free of the pressures of other platforms.”

“We thought Mates Day was the ideal moment to bring Aussies together to celebrate with the people that matter to them most and bond over some seriously good Gelato Messina.”

The campaign will use publicity, store activations, paid content, influencers, social media, email marketing, and Snapchat ads to prompt Australia’s 8 million users to claim a free scoop on Mates Day.

Sian Bishop, head of brand and marketing at Gelato Messina, said bringing people together for good vibes and delicious gelato is part of Messina’s DNA.

“We are so excited to celebrate friendship this Mates Day with Snapchat. Creating Oh Snap! was fun. Getting to dish it out nationwide for free, in the name of friendship, is even better,” she said.

Customers must show Gelato Messina staff their Snapchat app to redeem a free scoop.
