Special Group hires creative duo from CHE Proximity

Special Group has hired creative duo Matt Bladin and Phoebe Sloan from CHE Proximity.

Bladin, the former national chair of Youngbloods, and Sloane played a pivotal role in the development of resources for junior industry talent such as Asking for a Friend and regional mentorship program The Trenches.

Together they spent two-and-a-half years at CHEP, working on brands such as Mazda, Flybuys, AGL, Telstra, RACV and Latitude Financial. Prior to that Sloane was a creative at Wunderman Thompson and Bladin was the managing editor of The Ripe and designer at Woof Creative Solutions.

Bladin and Sloane join the slew of recent hires made by Special Group. Lee Egan and and Sian Binder were hired towards the end of 2020 in the creative department, soon followed by Toby Moore and Luke Thompson to build out the creative operation in the new Melbourne office.

“There’s an incredible energy and warm culture at Special Group and we’re thrilled to have the opportunity to become part of that and join something with immense creative opportunity,” Sloane said.

“We’re going to learn so much working with creative legends such as Tom, Jules, Luke and Toby and we couldn’t be more excited.”

Bladin added: “We’re so excited to join Special Group at a time of incredible growth for the company. The hunger in Melbourne to make great work is only matched by how warm and kind everyone is. We can’t wait to start getting into it.”

Special Group’s recent growth is also owed to the expansion of its work with Uber Eats to Asia and North America. Last year it also picked up the creative account for Bonds. Special Group opened an office in the US in October to service the Uber Eats account.

Special Group Australia creative director, Luke Thompson, said: “Matt and Phoebe bring both talent and incredible ambition to the business and we can’t wait to see the brilliance they will add to our clients, work and culture. They’re the perfect creative team to help us grow our rapidly expanding Melbourne offering.”
