Spotify unveils Australia’s top podcasts and launches 2022 Wrapped Experience

Spotify has today launched its 2022 Wrapped campaign and personalised user experience, which taps into a user’s personal data to recap personal musical tastes for the year and will be rolled out now in its mobile app worldwide.

At the same time, the music streaming platform has unveiled its top podcasts, artists, albums, songs, and playlists from the creators that helped soundtrack the year for more than 456 million users worldwide.

A mix of genres made the most streamed podcasts for Australians, with The Joe Rogan Experience, the comedian’s official podcast, coming out on top, followed by ABC News Briefing, the latest local, covering national and international news updates from ABC News, and Casefile True Crime.

The Inspired Unemployed was next, hosted by two comedian mates, followed by Call Her Daddy, which is the most listened-to podcast by women on Spotify.

Meanwhile, Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny was Australia’s most streamed artist of the year, and Harry Styles’ international hit ‘As It Was’ took the top spot as the country’s most streamed track with more than 1.6 billion streams globally this year. Taylor Swift has featured heavily in this year’s Wrapped, not only in the global list but also coming out on top as Australia’s most streamed local artist.

As previously mentioned, Spotify has also rolled out its Wrapped creator experience for podcasters and artists. With access to their own individualised Wrapped microsite experience, creators can dive into all the ways in which their fans listened this year.

Features include new data stories to express a user’s year in audio. In addition to the user’s top artists, genres, songs, podcasts and minutes listened to, the personalised Wrapped Experience includes several new features, including 2022: The Movie, Your Audio Aura, Playing Cards and 2022 Wrapped: Blend. Check out Spotify for the Record for all the details on these new features.

Additionally, for the second year in a row, Spotify has rolled out Spotify Clips for Podcasts and fans will be able to view special thank you messages from some of their favourite podcast hosts by visiting a participating show’s page on Spotify.

Last year, Spotify rolled out its subscriptions for podcasts in Australia on iOS or Android, after launching it in the US earlier this year.

The company said the service, which allows creators to mark episodes as “subscriber-only” content, will now become available in 33 new markets worldwide.
