Stan commissions first movie with Queensland thriller The Second
Internet streaming service Stan has announced its first movie commission, a psychological thriller called The Second, which has been funded by Queensland taxpayers.
Stan – jointly owned by Nine Entertainment Co and Fairfax Media – will exclusively stream the film after it has had a cinema release.
The Second is the first feature film commissioned by Stan, following its two original series, No Activity and Wolf Creek.
The film, which has its $1m production budget covered by Screen Queensland, will be directed by Mairi Cameron with Stephen Lance as writer/ producer. The Second is “about two female friends whose lives entwine in the pages of an elusive second novel”.
Nick Forward, Stan’s chief content officer, said in a press release: “The success of No Activity and Wolf Creekhave shown the audience demand for high quality Australian productions and we are excited to be working with the best creative talent in the country to bring more Stan Originals to the screen.”
The film will start shooting later this year.
