Stefanos Tsitsipas’ triumph over Roger Federer assists Australian Open to audience of 1.036m

Night seven of the Australian Open pulled in an average of 1.036m metro viewers with the help of Stefanos Tsitsipas’ unexpected win over Roger Federer.

According to OzTAM’s overnight preliminary metro ratings, 1.304m metro viewers tuned in to the game while 1.134m watched on as Australian Ash Barty defeat Maria Sharapova.

The Australian Open was the most watched program for Sunday TV and managed to top the key advertising demographics 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54.

Seven’s sporting program, The Big Bash League, attracted a metro audience of 434,000 as the Sydney Sixers and Brisbane Heat went head to head.

Meanwhile, Ten’s reality TV program I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here saw 710,000 viewers tune in.

In the news battle for the evening Nine News’ 924,000 viewers topped Seven News’ 867,000.

Nine was the clear winner of the Sunday ratings battle as it saw an overall audience share of 31.9%. Nine beat its other free to air networks as it finished well ahead of Seven’s 14.5% share, Ten’s 13.1%, ABC’s 9.1% and SBS’ 4% share.

In the multi-channels, 7mate had the biggest audience share with 3.6%.
