Straight Outta Compton straight in at number one as Zac Efron flick averages $262 per screen

Zac Efron film We Are Your Friends managed just $37,831 over 144 screens at the weekend’s box office – an embarrassing average take of just $262 per screen.

That figure compares to the $14,021 the top grossing film, NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton, managed at the weekend, pulling in $4.528m on 323 screens.

We Are Your Friends had taken $1,424 per screen on its opening last weekend, but dropped to 22nd in the b0x office takings this weekend, having pulled in just $335,000 so far.

A Walk In The Woods, based on travel writer Bill Bryson’s book of the same name, managed $500,000 on its opening weekend to be the second highest grossing new release of the week after Compton, which was the only film to break the million-dollar barrier.

Jake Gyllenhall film Southpaw managed $712,000 in second spot, while Aussie flick Last Cab to Darwin hung around in the top ten with $442,056 on 218 screens.
