Suicide Squad dominates the weekend box office despite bad reviews

DC Comics’ Suicide Squad defied its bad reviews pulling in a whooping $13.898m across 516 screens in its opening weekend, easily dominating the weekend box office with its nearest competitor trailing behind by $10m.

Matt Damon’s Jason Bourne grabbed $3.588m across 483 screens over the weekend to take its total local box office to $13.545m.

Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie made $2.766m across 370 screens in its opening weekend, to take its local box office to $3.358m having premiered in Australia on Thursday.

Ticket sales plummeted after the top three films, with Star Trek Beyond not managing to crack the $1m mark, pulling in only $744,956 across 273 screens.

Ghostbusters manager $708,707 across 269 screens while Disney’s The BFG grabbed $259,838 across 175 screens.
