Sunrise cracks the top 20 shows on low Friday TV ratings day

A slow night saw news and current affairs shows dominate Friday’s ratings with even Seven’s Sunrise managing to crack the top twenty for the day.

Sunrise’s audiences of 274,000 in the metro markets and 457,000 nationally continued to easily outrate Nine’s Today which saw 182,000 metro and 270,000 nationally tune in.

A similar result was seen in Friday night’s sport with 547,000 metro viewers tuning into Seven’s coverage of the Collingwood – Port Adelaide AFL clash and 370,000 watching the NRL’s Cronulla Sharks v Melbourne Storm match on Nine. Nationally the two shows attracted audiences of 739,000 and 531,000.

Of the news shows, Seven’s 6pm and 6.30 slots won the evening with 849,000 and 795,000 metro viewers. Nine attracted 793,000 and 739,000 for its bulletins while the ABC’s 7pm news had 570,000 viewers tune in across the five cities.

The day’s best rating entertainment shows were Seven’s The Chase Australia and Better Homes and Gardens which picked up 503,000 and 495,000 metro viewers along with Nine’s Hot Seat which had 476,000 tune in.

Ten’s best shows of the night were The Living Room and The Project which saw 149,000 and 148,000 metro viewers tune in.

Seven’s wins in news and sport were reflected in the station’s shares with its main channel taking 25.2% of the audience over Nine’s 17.2%. The ABC’s main channel pulled in 10.8%, well ahead of Ten’s 7.9% while SBS had 4.7%.

Of the total network shares, Seven took 37.4%, Nine had 26.8%, the ABC 16.8%, Ten 12.6% and SBS 6.5%
