Sunrise launches tradies flood effort
Seven’s morning show Sunrise has launched a drive to persuade tradies to donate their efforts to the Queensland flood recovery effort.
Operation Bounce Back, being run in association with the Queensland Government, seeks to put qualified tradespeople where they can offer most help. It follows a similar initiative in the state by the show following Cyclone Larry in 2006.
Sunrise co-host David Koch said: “We want Queensland to bounce back as quickly as possible.”
Oh great hit on small business people to volunteer their time. With his connections surely kochie could call on the merchant bankers to rally instead – it’s painfully obvious from the total that many have yet to dig even shallow if not deep. Next they’ll be asking primary producers to offer food! Target others Sunrise!

Great is the government and sunrise going to pay for our wage? who pays the tradies to put food on the table! we too have to live, and we never hear about the good things we do for others only the bad work that gets done by others that aren’t qualified, yet when we’re needed for free then thats ok….I a tradie myself had a very bad year last year and scraped to put food on the table for the family, like so many other tradies, yet people think we can survive on nothing!! forget it…

im an electrician and know every one from my trade to water tankers, builders excavator drivers etc. we all are on the line of going under. what i think people are missing is no sparkies are going down there for free at this point. there charging what ever to get power on. its a job some one needs to pay. the sparkie is just the first one to get there. after us there will be builders, plasterers, plumbers and they dont offer nothing for free either. i was down at a house in fairfield yesterday and the builder there was doing a strip out and needed money within 14 days to continue to next job because after last year none of us have any business financial strength.

You are absolutely correct GPE, it was a damn hard year on the construction industry last year, I am a plasterer and am hoping that the work wil come in the not too distant future, I have my name down everywhere, except for free as I am in debt up to my ears after trying to survive from last year, are the electricians charging normal rates or are they charging discounts? thanks keith
