Sydney radio ratings: Fitzy and Wippa see no early breakthrough

fitzy_wippaNova’s new Sydney breakfast lineup of Fitzy and Wippa failed to make an early breakthough in their first set of radio ratings.

Michael “Wippa” Wipfli and Ryan “Fitzy” Fitzgerald inherited the slot from Merrick and Dools half way through the ratings period, in mid September.

However, they saw a drop in share from 6.8% to 5.6%, with DMG’s Nova moving from second to fourth place in the commercial FM breakfast battle.

Despite the drop, DMG’s group program director Paul Jackson told Mumbrella: “The show has been on five weeks and we’re flying. We’ve reset everything and the number you’re seeing in Brisbane and Adelaide (where Fitzy and Wippa are on 6-7pm weekdays), you’ll be seeing that in Sydney in the coming months.

“If you hear it you’ll know it’s a strong funny show and we’ll give it the time.”

The change in breakfast allowed both Southern Cross Austereo’s 2MMM’s The Grill Team and ARN’s WSFM’s Jonesy and Amanda to pull into equal second place, on 6.2%.

Kyle and Jackie O, on Southern Cross Austereo’s Today Network, maintained their number one position gaining 0.5 on last ratings period to a 10.6% share.

Today’s drivetime – featuring Fifi & Jules from Monday to Thursday and Hamish & Andy on Fridays –  moved back up to first place in Sydney with a 0.2 rise to 11.3%.

They’ve edged out ABC702 which secured 10.6% share, down from Richard Glover’s previous 11.9%.

Talk radio’s 2GB dropped its hold by 1.2% in the new ratings results but remained on top with a 14.4% share, ahead of ABC702’s 9.9, which dropped from 10.4%.
