Tabcorp appoints Sportsbet marketing GM, Luke Waldren, following restructure
Sportsbet’s GM of marketing, Luke Waldren, has jumped ship to join rival Tabcorp as the two companies shake up their media and marketing operations.
Waldren will join Tabcorp as EGM of its wagering and media arm following a restructure earlier this year that saw CMO Megan Magill depart.
Tabcorp’s restructure saw the company spit into three divisions – wagering and media, gaming services, and lotteries and Keno – with each being responsible for their own marketing.
Former Suncorp head of brand marketing, Tim Hernadi, has filled Waldren’s position at Sportsbet.
During Waldren’s tenure at Sportsbet, the betting company came under fire for a number of campaigns including the ‘Putting the ‘roid in Android’ campaign featuring convicted drug cheat Ben Johnson and its naked shaving advertisements.
The naked shaving campaign had the distinction of featuring twice in the list of most-complained-about ads for the first half of 2018.
Waldren’s departure from Sportsbet was part of a shake up of the company’s marketing ranks after long-standing chief marketing officer, Barni Evans was promoted to CEO in March to replace Cormac Barry.
Following Evans’ promotion, general manager of media, Mark Migliorini took the role of CMO with head of media, Amelia Lowndes, stepping into his role.
