Telstra and Google create Androidland

Experiential agency Retail Engine has build an Android live site for Telstra and Google at Telstra’s flagship store on Melbourne’s Bourke Street.

Called Androidland, it is a large scale interactive customer experience centre to showcase Android products and services.

Android vendors including Samsung, Motorola and HTC were involved with the aim of explaining “Why Android”.

Customers can control projected screens to use video game Angry Birds and ebooks, control Google Earth and receive hands-on product tutorials from Google experts.

Danielle Barclay, Retail Engine’s GM said: “The retail environment was the obvious platform to showcase the Android technology. Six months in development, Androidland is certainly not a traditional retail project. It’s a great example of new retail experiential thinking utilising innovative technology to communicate and create unique and genuine brand experiences.”

Adrian Newport, Telstra’s general manager of inventory and execution said: “We wanted to create a retail environment like no other that helps us to answer customer Android questions in a fun, interactive way. The result is a world-first collaboration that goes beyond conventional product displays by allowing visitors to get hands on with a range of popular mobile services and apps found on Android devices.”

The campaign will run until February 2012.
