Telstra snags former Optus director as new GM of retail marketing and merchandising
Dan Lacaze has announced he will be joining Telstra next week as the telco’s general manager, retail marketing and merchandising.
On Monday, Lacaze said he is pleased to be joining “a proud Aussie icon”.
“I’ll be in the engine room of the consumer business,” he wrote on Linkedin.
“Thank you to Frank Pittari and Jana Kotatko for your vote of confidence. Brent Smart I’m looking forward to wherever we go. Can’t wait to meet the team and get stuck in.”
Lacaze spent five years at Optus, most recently as senior director of device portfolio and partnerships.
Telstra recently launched its new brand platform, ‘Wherever We Go’, with an integrated campaign driven by an animated film called ‘Duet’ and out-of-home instillations across almost 3,000 national sites.
“If you want to change how people feel about your brand, you have to change how the brand feels,” Telstra CMO Brent Smart said.
“This work captures the spirit of optimism and promise of partnership that we want the Telstra brand to be all about.
“We want to show that the biggest brands can also be the most imaginative.”
If the device portfolio at Optus is anything to go by, Telstra is in trouble.

Sujay,
Optus are a formidable competitor and have consistently won significant device launch moments across iPhone, Galaxy and Pixel in the past due to the hard work of many.
Telstra is also a huge, successful organisation. Your comment is ignorant suggesting one hire will shift their fortunes, as misguided and inaccurate as it is.
