Ten picks Gogglebox star Angie Kent as next Bachelorette

Ten has selected Angie Kent, of Gogglebox and I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here fame, as 2019’s Bachelorette.

Kent follows last year’s Bachelorette Ali Oetjen, who delivered the franchise its lowest-ever ratings for both an opening episode and finale.

“Angie is the perfect Bachelorette. She’s genuine, funny, loveable and naturally gorgeous. I am so excited to see Angie’s love story unfold,” executive producer of The Bachelorette Australia, Hilary Innes, said.

Kent added: “I’ve always been the girl who loves to make everyone laugh, but now I reckon it’s time to have someone to laugh with me, rather than at me.

“I’m at a place now where I have loads of self-love, but I’m also open to all of life’s amazing possibilities. So, if 20 or so fellas want to join me, have a laugh and potentially be my perfect partner in life and love – I say – let’s give it a red hot go!”

Kent’s selection continues Ten’s trend of casting familiar faces for the Bachelor and Bachelorette franchises. Sophie Monk’s turn as the Bachelorette was a ratings success for Ten, with 951,000 metro viewers tuning into the first episode, and going out on top with 1.640m metro viewers watching her pick Stu Laundy in the final episode.

Nick Cummins’ appearance as The Bachelor was also a ratings winner, with 1.241m metro viewers tuning in to watch him decide to leave without a partner.

Three weeks ago, Ten announced the casting of newcomer Matt Agnew as this year’s Bachelor.
