Ten releases first podcast offering from 10 Speaks, ‘The Professor and The Hack’
Ten has revealed the first podcast offering from 10 Speaks, the audio business announced at the CBS-owned business’ upfronts in October 2018.
The Professor and The Hack will feature Ten’s network political editor Peter Van Onselen and national affairs editor Hugh Riminton, and will unpack Australian politics for the average Australian.
The show will be offered weekly and is powered by Acast which will deliver the technical infrastructure and distribution.
Network Ten chief executive officer Paul Anderson said the timing of the podcast couldn’t be better with the federal election around the corner.
“We’re really excited to be launching 10 Speaks with such a fantastic podcast, particularly in the lead-up to the federal election. When it comes to politics, Peter and Hugh are world-class and their banter, insights and take on the world is unique, accessible and relatable. I may be biased of course, but I’d highly recommend the first episode to those who enjoy good ol’ political banter,” said Anderson.
As part of the ongoing partnership with Acast, 10 Speaks will feature original and “show-adjacent content” featuring Ten talent.
“10 is home to some of the noisiest content and some of Australia’s best talent and commentators. It makes sense for us to extend the great content we have into the booming podcasting area. We can’t wait to share more of what’s to come. Watch this space,” said Anderson.
Acast’s current suite of podcasts includes My Dad Wrote a Porno and The Osher Gunsberg Podcast. Nova Entertainment currently has a partnership deal with Acast to buy and sell inventory for the platform.
Acast signed a content-sharing partnership with Spotify last year, allowing its podcasts to be accessed on the music streaming giant’s platform.
Acast content director Guy Scott-Wilson said the move by Ten showed how important podcasting currently is in the Australian media landscape.
“Podcasting in Australia has moved far beyond its infancy, with listener numbers continuing to grow year on year,” said Scott-Wilson.
“It’s exciting to see iconic Aussie media companies like Network 10 entering the podcasting space. We’re delighted to partner with Network 10 on 10 Speaks, helping them usher in a new era of on-demand audio content.”
Paul Anderson launching a political podcast is laughable and completely at odds with his track record.
Let’s hope his very good friend Mitch Fifield doesn’t feel the need to pick up the phone and derail the banter.
After all Hugh and the CEO haven’t seen eye to eye with their political views in the past!
