Ten’s new comedy The New Normal rates 552,000

Ten’s new US comedy The New Normal saw a rise for the network last night on the previous Sunday but the prime time show is still struggling.

The sitcom, which aired at 8pm, rated just 552,000 and 19th in total viewers for the night, according to preliminary ratings from OzTam.

It’s an improvement on last week’s figure of 488,000, however last week it placed higher, in 16th position for total viewers.

The show was behind Nine’s 60 Minutes on 1.237m at 7.30pm, Seven’s Air Ways 1.066m and ABC1’s The Making of the Kingdom of Plants rating 972,000 which both went out at 8pm.

Across the key advertising demographics, the show was fifth in the 16-39 age group, 12th in 18-49 and 14th in 25-54.

Seven’s Sunday Night was the top show of the evening. The episode featured an interview with 2DayFM’s Kyle Sandilands discussing his life and career, on the back of his new autobiography, Scandalands.

The current affairs show dropped back to eighth in 16-39, fifth in 18-49 and third in 25-54.

On the Nine network, House Husbands dipped below 1m for just the second time in its first season and recorded its lowest overnight ratings.

The Nine drama rated 944,000, and first in its time slot placing eighth in total viewers, but jumped to fourth in 16-39, 18-49 and fifth in 25-54.

The program’s previous low of 961,000 was when it was up against Ten’s Julian Assange Story two weeks ago.

Jack Irish: Black Tide, starring Guy Pearce, was the second episode of the movie-length mini-series based on the John Temple novels.

The show rated 851,000 and 13th for total viewers, slipping to 19th in 16-39, 18th in 18-49 and 17th in 25-54.

Last week’s episode rated 950,000 in total viewers, ranking sixth.

In the battle for Weekend breakfast ratings, Weekend Sunrise rated 315,000 ahead of Weekend Today on 276,000.

Seven won the night on total channel share with 22.4% just ahead of Nine on 21.6%. ABC1 was third on 15% in front of Ten on 12.5%. SBS1 was sixth on 3.8%, behind Nine’s digital channel GO! on 4.1%.
