The Amazing Race Australia won’t travel internationally in 2020 amid coronavirus fears

Ten has confirmed it will be a domestic race for The Amazing Race Australia in 2020 amid coronavirus fears.

A spokesperson for Ten said current international travel cautions had influenced the decision.

“Due to the current cautions around international travel due to the COVID-19 outbreak, a domestic route has proven the safest option for the upcoming season of The Amazing Race Australia, which begins production in June this year. The welfare of cast and crew is of the upmost importance and all necessary measures will be taken to ensure their protection,” said the spokesperson.

“From tropical rainforests, to the arid, red desert of the outback and the cool mountainous hinterlands, we are confident that the sheer vastness and contrasting environment of Australia will create a unique and challenging backdrop to the most amazing race on earth.”

The decision follows that of CBS to halt the current American season of the program amid travel concerns.

The Amazing Race Australia returned to Ten in 2019, hosted by Beau Ryan. It premiered to 635,000 overnight metro viewers, according to OzTAM, and its final moments brought in 739,000.

A second season is expected in the second half of 2020.
