Australian Centre for Contemporary Arts appoints new creative agency

Melbourne-based indie agency Taboo has been appointed by the Australian Centre for Contemporary Arts (ACCA) as its creative agency partner, following a competitive pitch process.

The appointment marks a pivotal moment in the ACCA’s journey of redefining its brand and commemorating its 40-year legacy in 2023.

Established in 1983, the ACCA provides an artistic platform that fosters the creation of new and experimental works, connecting to the diverse communities it serves. Taboo will refresh the brand’s visual identity, serving as the foundation for future creative endeavours.

Max Delany, artistic director and CEO of the ACCA, said the partnership is exciting and he looks forward to working with Taboo.

“Taboo’s commitment to research, innovation, inclusion and cultural impact, along with its extensive cultural networks, align happily with ACCA’s vision, mission and values, and we are excited to embark on this creative partnership,” Delany said.

Taboo’s managing director, James Mackinnon, added: “We consider it a huge honour to embark on this creative journey with Max and the team and contribute to the legacy of ACCA.

“Our agency thrives on collaborating with progressive, imaginative, and adventurous clients, and ACCA really is the epitome of these qualities,” Mackinnon continued. “We’re incredibly excited to align our brands to champion and propel Australian creativity.”

The agency recently launched ‘Space of Waste’, a community impact lab in Melbourne that invites media, brands and creative individuals to experience, learn and collaborate with other another. It also recently partnered with Aboriginal artist John Smith Gumbula to form a strategic alliance ‘TABUR’AN’, aiming to drive Indigenous representation in Australia’s creative landscape.
