The Bachelor to premiere on Ten on 31 July

Ten has revealed the premiere date for the latest instalment of The Bachelor, announcing it will go to air on Wednesday 31 July at 7:30pm.

Last year’s season of The Bachelor was the most successful for Ten ratings wise, premiering to 940,000 metro viewers, well up on Matty Johnson’s 846,000.

It concluded with 1.009m for the final episode. The numbers jumped to 1.241m as former Rugby star Nick ‘Honey Badger’ Cummins sent social media into a spin by choosing nobody at the conclusion of the show.

Last year’s iteration of The Bachelorette, however, was a poor performer, premiering with the lowest audience ever for the franchise – 631,000 metro viewers – and concluding with 926,000 for its final moments – a 44% fall from Sophie Monk’s season.

In the lead up to the show’s premiere this year, Ten has been pushing new Bachelor Matt Agnew’s smarts, noting his career as an astrophysicist. The network is also keen to let viewers know it’s about romance this time around.

“Matt brings spades of old-school romance back to The Bachelor,” Hilary Innes, producer of the show said. “He’s a bachelor with natural charm and intelligence, but with a definite twinkle in his eye.

“Matt will be a breath of fresh air to be around. He comes from such an interesting and different world, but is still a humble and down-to-Earth Aussie man who really just wants to find the love of his life.”
