The Bachelorette, with Gogglebox’s Angie Kent, returns October 9

Season five of Ten’s The Bachelorette, fronted by Gogglebox’s Angie Kent, is set to premiere on October 9 at 7:30pm,

Kent was announced as the next star of the program shortly after her run, alongside fellow former Goggleboxer Yvie Jones, in I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here at the beginning of 2019.

Ten is promoting Kent as “unfiltered and unapologetic” and hoping she will strike the right balance between celebrity and girl-next-door. She follows Ali Oetjen, whose 2018 season gave the franchise its lowest ever launch figure of 631,000 metro viewers.

The year prior, former Bardot star Sophie Monk smashed records with 951,000 metro viewers watching her premiere, after 655,000 tuned in for Georgia Love the year prior. Sam Frost’s season, which was the first in Australia, brought 875,000 metro viewers in 2015.

Comparatively, Matt Agnew’s season of The Bachelor launched earlier this year to 828,000 metro viewers and Nick ‘Honey Badger’ Cummins brought 940,000 the year prior. Before that, Matty J’s season had 846,000, Richie Strahan 882,000 in 2016, Sam Wood 846,000 and Blake Garvey’s 2014 season delivered 692,000. The very first season, with Tim Robards, brought 669,000 metro viewers.

Kent’s season will start with an appearance from her brother – or “fairy godbrother” – Brad, before putting her “motley crew of romantic suitors” through their paces, according to an announcement from Ten.

“And while she doesn’t have a type, with a little help from her fairy godbrother Brad, our Bachelorette is determined to try on a few shoes until she finds one that fits. Cue the joy, jokes and jousting,” read the release.

Gogglebox, a joint venture production between Ten and Foxtel, regularly performs well for Ten. 2019’s season 10 has sat between 600,000 and 800,000 metro viewers, while season eight, the last with Kent and Jones on it, reached as high as 825,000.
