The Block achieves biggest audience for series to date, with 1.293m tuning in

Nine’s The Block achieved its highest rating episode of the season last night, pulling a metro audience of 1.293m.

The show achieved a national audience of 1.821m and also dominated the key advertising demographics, which are made up of the 16-39s, 18-49s and 25-54s.

Last night’s result had 130,000 viewers more than The Bloc’sk premiere three weeks ago, which had a metro audience of 1.163m. The show was most popular in Melbourne, with 449,000 tuning in from the city.

Running against The Block was Seven’s Little Big Shots, which averaged 864,000 metro viewers. When adding in regional figures, that number rose to 1.299m. Little Big Shots’ largest audience came from Sydney, with 256,000.

Meanwhile on Ten, Russell Coight’s All Aussie Adventures averaged 513,000 metro viewers from 7:30pm and achieved a national audience of 774,000. ABC’s Grand Designs, which ran at the same time, had a metro audience of 529,000.

In news, Seven won the night with a metro audience of 1.177m. Its largest audience came from Melbourne, where it achieved 352,000 viewers. Nine News Sunday had a metro audience of 1.054m with its biggest audience coming from Sydney – 347,000.

Running from 8pm was Seven’s Sunday Night and Ten’s film offering The Dish. The shows pulled in audiences of 530,000 and 290,000 respectively. Later in the evening, Nine’s 60 Minutes pulled 714,000 metro viewers. The show ran from 8:30pm and was up against ABC’s Rake in the same time slot, which managed 573,000 metro viewers.

The Block helped Nine win the evening both from an average main channel and network share. Nine’s main channel share was 25.4%, beating Seven’s 19%. Ten fell short to the ABC once again, with an 8% share compared to ABC’s 12.9%. SBS had a share of 5.1%.

When adding in the multi-channels, Nine Network achieved a 33.8% share of the Sunday evening TV audience, while Seven Network’s share was 29.3%. ABC Network managed a 17.5% total share and Network Ten’s was 12.9%.

Seven had the biggest multi-channel – 7mate – which had a 4.7% share of audience.
