The Block helps Nine edge ahead of Seven in weekly ratings battle
A close race in the weekly ratings battle between Australia’s two largest commercial free-to-air channels, Seven and Nine, came down to a 0.2 point difference in audience share this week.
Nine’s primary channel finished the week with 20.8%, only marginally ahead of Seven’s 20.6%. Thanks to the AFL finals ramping up – and thus the strong performance of Seven’s multi-channel 7mate – Seven won the network battle with 31.4%, compared to Nine Network’s 28.5%.
7mate had a 5.0% audience share for the week. The next strongest multi-channel was 7Two, with 3.5% audience share.
The Block and Nine and Seven’s news offering dominated the list of the most-watched programs for the week, with 1.304m metro viewers tuning into last Sunday night’s episode of the renovation competition. With regional figures added into the mix, the number climbed to 1.807m.
Seven’s screening of the AFL Finals Season on Friday night had 974,000 across the five metro markets and 1.224m across the nation.
The Saturday night clash was slightly behind with 915,000 metro viewers and 1.157m including regional viewers.
Excluding news and sport, Seven’s most-watched program was Little Big Shots, with 768,000 metro viewers and 1.215m nationally.
Ten’s most-watched programs were The Bachelor on Wednesday night (884,000 metro and 1.179m national), The Bachelor on Thursday night (875,000 metro and 1.180m national) and Googlebox which screened after The Bachelor on Thursday (819,000 metro and 1.151m national).
The Block and The Bachelor dominated the key advertising demographics of 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54, with Ten’s Have You Been Paying Attention? also putting in a strong showing across the 25-54s.

last week the older, builder contestant, put under ridiculous time pressures had a mental breakdown. And the wife claimed the show was deliberately creating drama. Scottie’s response to both left me appalled. Will never watch the show again.
