The Block hits season high of 1.9m

Last night’s episode of The Block hit a season high of 1.916m as the last stage of the renovations were revealed.

The Nine show – now entering its final week – peaked with a five city metro audience of 2.411m according to preliminary overnight metro ratings from OzTam. However, it total share, Seven was the overall ratings winner.

The next highest rating show was Nine News Sunday on 1.559m followed by 60 Minutes, taking 1.541m. However Seven still managed to win Sunday on channel share, edging out Nine 25% to 24.7%.

The Block was top in all key age demos with 684,000 across 16-39, 1.018m across 18-49 and 1.037m across 25-54.

Despite placing sixth in total viewers, Masterchef was second across all key demos. It took 1.375m total viewers, 574,000 across 16-39, 802,000 across 18-49 and 796,000 across 25-54.

Seven’s top show for the night, Downton Abbey at 8.30pm placed 4th overall to take 1.477m across the five city metro market. The British costume drama ranked fifth in each demo, taking 320,000 in the 16-39, 429,000 across 18-49 and 582,000 across 25-54.

Billy Connolly’s Route 66 aired its first of four episodes on Seven at 7:30pm and took 1.231m to place seventh. The show sees the comedian travel USA’s famous cross-country route.

Also new this week was the first episode of ABC1’s Sporting Nation that sees comedian John Clarke examine how Australia came to take its sport so seriously. The show, which went out at 7.30pm took 689,000 in total viewers to place 11th over all for the night.
