The Cult TV Book
This week, we have copies of The Cult TV Book, a collection of essays on cult television programs, their aesthetics and importance within the contemporary TV industry.
The once-marginal cult TV ranges from The Sopranos to Buffy the Vampire Slayer. This book is a guide to this phenomenon, complete with analyses of the work that goes into conceiving and marketing a cult series, as well as investigations that explore the unique cult appeal of individual programs.
Leading scholars, journalists, and writers consider the many aspects of a show
To me, for a television show to attain cult status, it is usually unashamedly what it wants to be. Meaning, they generally cater to a very specific target audience and give said audience exactly what they want. This is usually at the expense of alienating a larger viewing audience.
My personal favourite is Firefly.
