The Feds MTV pilot The New Crowd goes live online

The pilot episode of The New Crowd, an MTV International documentary series created by Sydney production house The Feds, has launched online.

Josh Logue, creator and director of the pilot, shot the episode in Sydney last year with the working title ‘The In Crowd’. MTV International have posted the series online to gauge viewer response and if the show finds an audience, it will be commissioned for a full series that will air internationally across the MTV network. The pilot was first announced in late 2012 and The Feds are the first Australian production company to have a pilot commissioned by MTV International.

The New Crowd follows 18-to-24 year olds who have recently joined different groups or social cliques that they have aspired to be a part of for some time. The pilot episode features an 18-year-old roller derby enthusiast Michaela and wannabe magician Max, 22.

If the series is picked up, The Feds will shoot 10 one hour episodes. Logue’s ideas for future characters include a young Republican in Washington, a rodeo rider in Texas, a Christian from America’s Bible belt as well as stories from young people in cities such as Johannesburg, London, Manchester and Mumbai.

The Fed’s previous credits include the ABC kid’s music show Stay Tuned. They have also worked on numerous advertising campaigns in recent months including the latest installment of the Cadbury Joyville campaign as well as an ad for Nescafe Blend 43, and currently have a Red Bull documentary in production.

The pilot has already opened up further opportunities for the production company. Lisa Gray, The Feds head of content and executive producer of The New Crowd, said: “It’s really exciting for us.”

The pilot can be viewed online until July 31 and MTV will make a decision whether to commission the series based on the number of views as well as social media commentary around the show that uses the hashtag #thenewcrowd.
