The Footy Show audience climbs as Gogglebox struggles
Nine’s The Footy Show has dramatically boosted its audience this week as it begins airing in the five capital cities, pulling 636,000 metro viewers last night after 266,000 viewers from Brisbane and Sydney tuned in last week in the 8.30pm timeslot.
It easily out-rated Ten’s Gogglebox which continued to shed its audience since shifting into the 8.30pm timeslot last week, with the show pulling a metro audience of 376,000, down from 445,000 last week, according to preliminary overnight ratings from OzTam.
The boost in audience for The Footy Show helped Nine secure an audience share of 20 per cent, just behind Seven’s winning share of 22.6 per cent. The ABC claimed third place with a share of 11 per cent as Ten managed a share of 10.2 per cent.
However, when secondary channels are accounted for Network Ten just pipped the ABC with a total share of 16.6 per cent as the ABC had a total share of 15.8 per cent.
I have never worked out why 9 broadcast the Footy Show which come out of Melbourne so late in Sydney. They have mutable channels and could easily run it early on a secondary channel if they were interested.
The Block Open House was coded as two programs by Nine. The figure of 370,000 is the combined audience in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth. In Sydney and Brisbane the show was watched by 288,000, so the total metro audience is 658,000 which is slightly less than last week’s The Block Triple Threat.
Thanks Johnson – I don’t have the numbers for Sydney and Brisbane but have adjusted the story to clairfy those numbers are for Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.
Thanks for flagging.
