The Footy Show audience climbs as Gogglebox struggles

The Footy ShowNine’s The Footy Show has dramatically boosted its audience this week as it begins airing in the five capital cities, pulling 636,000 metro viewers last night after 266,000 viewers from Brisbane and Sydney tuned in last week in the 8.30pm timeslot.

It easily out-rated Ten’s Gogglebox which continued to shed its audience since shifting into the 8.30pm timeslot last week, with the show pulling a metro audience of 376,000, down from 445,000 last week, according to preliminary overnight ratings from OzTam.

The boost in audience for The Footy Show helped Nine secure an audience share of 20 per cent, just behind Seven’s winning share of 22.6 per cent. The ABC claimed third place with a share of 11 per cent as Ten managed a share of 10.2 per cent.

However, when secondary channels are accounted for Network Ten just pipped the ABC with a total share of 16.6 per cent as the ABC had a total share of 15.8 per cent.

Seven’s My Kitchen Rules was the clear winner of the evening, grabbing a metro audience of 1.367m in the 7.30pm timeslot, a slight drop on last week’s audience of 1.443m. MKR was the most-watched shows across all demographics while The Footy Show was the second most-watched show.

The Block’s Open House was watched by 370,000 across Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth while Ten’s Jamie’s Food Fight Club was watched by 262,000 across the five the capital cities.

In the 9pm timeslot, Seven’s American espionage thriller series State of Affairs saw its audience slip to 349,000 after growing to 400,000 last week.

A second episode of the series was watched by 263,000.

In time-shifted viewing last week’s first episode of State of Affairs picked up an extra 95,000 viewers to take its total audience to 495,000 while the second episode was watched by an extra 107,000 to take its total audience to 361,000.

On the ABC, 7.30 was watched by 639,00, Outback ER at 8pm had an audience of 540,000 and Hiding at 8.30pm pulled in 332,000 metro viewers.

In the news battleground, Seven News at 6pm beat-out Nine with a metro audience of 973,000 while Nine was watched by 964,000. In the 6.30pm timeslot Seven News/Today Tonight grabbed a metro audience of 882,000 while Nine News was watched by 875,000.
