The Masked Singer Australia returns August 10

Ten’s celebrity guessing game The Masked Singer Australia will return on Monday, August 10.

The show will see hosts Jackie O, Dave Hughes and Dannii Minogue return alongside new host Urzila Carlson who replaces Lindsay Lohan due to COVID-19 travel restrictions.

So far clues have been dropped for three of the 12 masked celebrities – the Dragonfly, the Frillneck and the latest clue for The Echidna – “It only knows one way to go… pedal to the metal from start to finish.”

The other masks include Bushranger, Cactus, Goldfish, Hammerhead, Kitten, Puppet, Queen, Sloth and Wizard.

The Masked Singer Australia premiered to 1.162m metro viewers in 2019 for its first season and concluded to 1.372m. Ten’s head of entertainment and factual, Stephen Tate, told Mumbrella the series was a ‘calculated risk’ ahead of its 2019 season.

“There’s a risk with every new format, but it has to be a calculated risk. You put the very best team together, and the team at Warner Bros [which produces The Masked Singer for Ten] are extraordinary. They’ve done such a wonderful job for us on the Bachelor franchise and Dancing with the Stars, so we’re in very safe hands. It’s a proven format in multiple markets around the world, so it’s a calculated risk,” he said.

The show is based on a format from Korea which was followed by success in the US with rapper T-Pain winning the first season. Singer Cody Simpson won the first season in Australia.

The Masked Singer Australia season two will premiere Monday, August 10 at 7.30pm.
