The score from WPP: Rest of the world 1; Australia 0
Sometimes, Australia feels like a very long way from England.
Particularly when WPP posts its financial results, with the following explanation:
“The world continues to move at very different speeds, both geographically and functionally. By means of explanation, perhaps an English football analogy is helpful.
“First, The Premier League consists of the BRICs (Brazil, Russia, India and China) and the Next 11 (Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, Turkey, Vietnam) or CIVETS (Colombia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Egypt, Turkey, South Africa), along with new media (personal computer driven, mobile, video content, social networks);
Australia not being on the radar is not really news. Sorry but this will never change -don’t buy a wedding dress you are a flowergirl (maybe one day a bridesmaid).
Australia “A long way from England”? Nah, this industry is full of Poms. Or as an acronym an English mate of mine has for Brits in the Australian media industry – FILTH. “Failed In London Try Here”!!!
Keef – I suspect your English mate failed in London because he was a plagiarist. ‘FILTH’ was, for over 100 years a derogatory reference to the English expats inHong Kong (Failed In London, Try Hong Kong).
In fact “Old Filth’ is the title of a beautiful book by Jane Gardam portraying the dying remnants of the empire.
Hopeless AND a plagiarist…. You can put nothing past these Brits, can ya!
I always thought Filth was ‘Failed in Launceston, Try Hobart’ … is this not the case?
lol @ Ben S.
Keef – sorry, I may not be a plagiarist, but regret do have pedantic leanings
Don’t worry, Hamish is on his way back. he’ll fix everything!
