The Secret Millionaire to premiere on Nine

Nine Network has won the right to air new reality show The Secret Millionaire, which premiere’s on Monday.

The announcement:

The new series of The Secret Millionaire, narrated by Academy Award winner Russell Crowe, puts six millionaires inside poor communities – in disguise – to donate their own money to deserving Australians who are struggling to survive.

A show with a deep-seated social conscience, the second series of The Secret Millionaire features a diverse lineup of wealthy benefactors, male and female, who want to improve the lives of people less well off.

Each episode focuses on a different millionaire who leaves behind a lavish way of life and takes on a secret identity while living and working undercover in an underprivileged area of Australia for 10 days.

Challenged with surviving on a shoestring budget, the millionaires immerse themselves in the lives of disadvantaged, marginalised people and befriend those suffering financial, emotional and physical hardship.

Deprived of credit cards, mobile phones, laptops and all the conveniences their jet-setting lifestyles afford them, the unknown millionaires are forced to make their own way in the community – working and volunteering alongside the locals, just like one of them, while they consider who most deserves to be gifted tens of thousands of dollars from their own fortunes.

After going undercover for 10 days the millionaires reveal their true identity to the people and charities they have singled out for reward, surprising them with cash gifts to improve their lives and the lives of those they work for.

The Secret Millionaire will engage viewers in today’s important social issues while highlighting the virtues of volunteerism. It promises to change the lives of both the underprivileged and the secret millionaires themselves, who together disburse almost $1 million to the communities they visit.
